Music Ministry

Holy Family Music Ministry Mission Statement

To support the sung liturgy at Holy Family Catholic Church and lead the congregation in full, active, and conscious participation. To foster the growth of musicianship of all ages during spirit-filled rehearsals. To sing quality music at high standards to the glory and praise of God.

We are always looking for committed and dedicated singers join our Music Ministry to share their gifts at Holy Family. For singers, the ability to read music is helpful, but not required. We need singers who can match pitch, carry a tune, accept direction, and sing well with others.

The Holy Family Choir is the principal liturgical choir of our parish and is open to those in high school and up. This group sings at the 9:30 am Sunday Mass from September-May. In addition, the choir sings for various concerts and special services throughout the year. This choir sings a wide range of music spanning many different centuries and cultures throughout the world. During the choir season, the Holy Family Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm.

Schola Cantorum consists of a smaller group of singers dedicated to Gregorian Chant and Renaissance Polyphony. The Schola Cantorum provides music at selected Sunday Masses, Feast Days, and various other services throughout the year. Although this group specializes in a particular style of music, its primary function is to support the Holy Family Choir and the Choristers. Participation in this group is limited to a small number of singers in each voice part. Those interested in joining the Schola are asked to contact Mr. Daniel for more information.

Choristers: The HF Music Ministry is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). The RSCM curriculum provides comprehensive music education for young singers. Choristers will learn about the history of the Catholic Church and her teachings regarding Sacred Music. Additionally, the students are taught how to be good worship leaders. Currently, Holy Family offers two children’s choirs, the St. Cecilia Choir is open to students in grades 2-5. The St. Gregory Choir is open to fifth graders with at least 2 years’ experience in the St. Cecilia Choir and students in grades 6-8. The Choristers sing monthly at the 11:30 am Sunday Mass during the school year as well as other services and concerts throughout the year. Rehearsals are on Wednesday afternoons at 5:30 pm.

Youth Ensemble leads music at the 5:00 pm Sunday Mass from September-May. This group is open to all high school students and provides a wide variety of music, ranging from Contemporary Christian songs to traditional hymnody. Rehearsals will be every other Tuesday at 6:30 pm and on Sundays at 3:45 pm.

Resurrection Choir ministers to bereaved families and leads music at Funeral liturgies. This choir is open to all in the parish. There is no standing weekly rehearsal. This choir gathers 45 minutes prior to funerals. Notice is given via email or phone to those who participate.

Instrumentalists: If you play an instrument (brass, woodwind, strings, or percussion), you are invited to participate with the Choirs at Mass on Sundays and major Feast Days.
