Twenty-eight pilgrims braved the cold and represented Holy Family at the 49th Annual March For Life in Washington D.C. on Friday, January 21, 2022. The group drove up Wednesday, spent time at the Shrine and Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and explored the national monuments on Thursday, and participated in the March For Life Rally and March on Friday before returning home. This year marked the 49th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade court decision which made abortion legal in the United States on Jan. 22, 1973. Thousands of people from all ages gathered to stand for life and fight for the right of all people, born and unborn. Some of our own pilgrims from Holy Family shared their thoughts on the trip, too.
Mary Clare Pangelinan, one of the high school youth on our pilgrimage summed up her experience and said, "The March for Life was an amazing and moving experience! Babies in the womb need us to fight for their right to life, especially in a world that views precious human beings as inconveniences. I hope that one day, our worl will recognize the evil truth of abortion and value the sanctity of life."
Carole Ginzl, another pilgrim, stated, "I was greatly encouraged by the number of young people (high schoolers, college students, young professionals) who participated in the March for Life. The future of the pro-life movement is in good hands with them in charge. Thank you to those who missed classes or took vacation days to participate. You are truly the light for the world!"
Kathy Christ commented on how this year's March was different than others she had attended: "I've attended the March for Life a few times. Two things stand out for me - one, the joy of being in a crowd of people committed to life as God defines it - from conception until natural death and two, the moving speeches at the Rally. This year, Fr. Mike Schmitz told us about his grandmother's stand for life and the impact it had on generations of her family."
Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible! While many of you could not be with us physically, know that you were with us in Washington D.C. spiritually. With crucial Supreme Court decisions in process this year, we pray that this year's March for Life was the last. Let us continue to pray for a protection of all life and an end to abortion.
