Youth Ministry

“It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle.”

-St. John Paul II

Mission Statement: The threefold goals of our youth ministry program is taken from the USCCB document, Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry, and are as follows: “To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today; To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community; To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.”

Koinonia Middle School Youth Ministry meets Sundays from 3-5pm in the youth room, located on the second floor of Holy Family Catholic School. As the middle school youth of our parish are preparing to receive the sacrament of confirmation, this ministry acts as a supplement and bridge between childhood and adolescence. Here the youth receive the tools to build fellowship and community as they learn to make the faith their own.

Transform High School Youth Ministry meets Sundays from 6-8pm in the youth room, located on the second floor of Holy Family Catholic School. The youth are provided with an environment of encounter with the Lord, where they can grow in their faith, understanding, and love. This is achieved through dynamic youth nights, peer ministry, missionary opportunity, time before the Blessed Sacrament, quarterly retreats, and fun filled offsite excursions. Ultimately, the teens will be given the tools to boldly live their faith in a world that generally tends to stand in opposition to the Gospel, in preparation for college and beyond.

Our Names:

Koinonia is a Greek word that occurs 20 times in the Bible. Koinonia’s primary meaning is “fellowship, sharing in common, communion.” The first occurrence of koinonia is Acts 2:42, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Christian fellowship is a key aspect of the Christian life. Believers in Christ are to come together in love, faith, and encouragement, which is the essence of koinonia.

When One truly encounter Jesus, One does not simply remain the same afterward. This encounter requires a response. Either you walk away better or bitter. Our call as Catholic Christians is not to just follow the flow of the crowd and be conformed to society, but to be transformed into counter cultural Disciples. As stated by St. Paul in Romans 12:2. “Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.”
